1. Killa Exclusive Double Mint 16.5mg
Killa is N.G.P. Tobacco's Danish brand and 16.5mg is its whole personality. Double Mint is the best seller because the two mints keep the flavour alive for the entire pouch, which is not a given at this strength. The pouch is slim and moist, it starts within a couple of minutes, and tin to tin it is identical. The 10-pack bundles at £19.99 make it £2.00 a tin, the best bundle price in the band.
Verdict: the tin to buy if you want one extra strong pouch and no fuss.
2. White Fox Full Charge 16.5mg
White Fox is GN Tobacco's all-white slim. Full Charge is the brand's 16.5mg tin and it is the best mint in the band: sharp, cold, a little peppery, and it does not go sweet. The pouch is soft and slightly fluffy, which makes it more comfortable than Killa for long sessions. If you want to go further, White Fox Black Tight is 30mg.
Verdict: the best extra strong mint. Pick this over Killa if comfort under the lip matters more than fruit choice.
3. Pablo Gold Edition Frosted Mint 17mg
Pablo Gold is the brand's middle line, half a milligram above Killa and from the same factory. Frosted Mint is the pick, but the real reason Gold earns its place is the fruit range: Blue Raspberry, Dark Cherry, Grape Ice, Passion Fruit, Pineapple, Tropical Punch, Cola and more at 17mg. Nobody else does this many fruit flavours at this strength with this consistency.
Verdict: the best extra strong fruit. If you want a cola or a cherry at 17mg, this is the line.
4. Nordic Spirit Max Frosty Mint 17mg
Nordic Spirit Max is the only mainstream big-brand tin in this list. JTI's soft slim pouch at 17mg is the gentlest way to be in the X-Strong band: the release is smoother than Killa or Pablo, the mint is cold rather than sharp, and it lasts longer. Max Frosty Berry is the fruit alternative. £4.49.
Verdict: the right pick for an ex-smoker stepping up from Nordic Spirit 9mg who does not want to change brand or pouch feel.
5. 77 Ghost Mini Mango 20mg
77 is a Danish brand and Ghost Mini is its extra strong line: a mini pouch at 20mg. That is a lot of nicotine in a small package and it hits accordingly. Mango is the best seller and the best flavour; Ghost Original Mini is the plain version. It is the only mini in this list and the one to pick if you need discretion and strength at the same time.
Verdict: the best extra strong mini. Treat the small size with respect.
6. CUBA Ice Cool Ninja 30mg
CUBA is made by Nicotobacco Factory and its Ninja line is 30mg. Ice Cool is the mint; Bubble Gum, Strawberry, Orange, Coconut, Pinacolada and Energy are the others. The standard CUBA White range at 16mg is the softer way into the brand (CUBA Lollipop 16mg is a best seller). CUBA also lists a Cherry 66mg 3-pack, which we would not recommend to anyone.
Verdict: the sensible 30mg if you want sweet flavours. Not a step from 16.5mg, a jump.
7. Pablo Ice Cold 30mg
Pablo's Red, Ice Cold and X Ice Cold tins are 30mg. Ice Cold is the one to pick: a cold mint that cuts through the burn better than Red's plain profile. The Dry and Mini versions at 30mg come and go in stock. Above this is Pablo Exclusive at 50mg, which we list but do not rank, because at that strength you are past the point where flavour or comfort mean anything.
Verdict: the 30mg for people who already know they need 30mg. Nobody else.
8. Siberia Slim 33mg
Siberia is GN Tobacco's famously strong line and the brand people mean when they say "the strongest". The white dry slim pouch at 33mg has a spearmint flavour and a slow, long release that makes it feel even stronger than the number. Slim, Super Slim and Ultra Slim are the formats; All White is the original. It ranks last not because it is bad but because it suits the fewest people.
Verdict: the benchmark for strong. If you have to ask whether you need it, you do not.
What about VELO Max?
VELO's UK range goes to 11mg in our catalogue and we do not currently list VELO Max, which BAT makes at 14mg to 17mg.
