ZYN strengths explained: 1.5mg to 11mg
ZYN has more strengths than any other big brand and labels them with dots. Here is every UK tin, what the dots mean, and which strength to pick.

Quick answer: UK ZYN runs from 1.5mg to 13.5mg. Mini Dry tins are 1.5mg, 3mg and 6mg. Slim tins are 9mg to 11mg, with a handful of XX Strong tins at 12.5mg and 13.5mg. The dots on the lid show strength, not flavour. Start at 1.5mg or 3mg if you are new, 6mg if you smoke or vape, 9mg or 11mg if you are a heavy user.
ZYN is Swedish Match's brand, now part of Philip Morris International. It has the widest strength ladder of any mainstream pouch in the UK, which is good, and it labels that ladder with dots, words and two different formats, which is confusing. This guide puts every tin in order.

Mini Dry: 1.5mg, 3mg and 6mg
ZYN's low strengths come in a Mini Dry format. The pouch is small and dry to the touch. Dry pouches release nicotine slowly, barely drip, and keep going for 45 minutes to an hour. They are the most discreet pouch on the market.
1.5mg is the gentlest nicotine pouch we sell from any major brand. Cool Mint, Spearmint and Black Cherry at this strength are for complete beginners and for people stepping down to almost nothing. You will notice it, but only just.
3mg (Citrus) is the sensible first tin for someone who does not currently use nicotine daily. Enough to register, not enough to cause a burn or hiccups.
6mg is where ZYN's labels start to mislead. The 6mg Mini Dry tins (Coffee, Citrus) are labelled "Mini Strong", because 6mg is the strongest Mini. By our bands, 6mg is the top of low strength. It is a good first tin for a daily smoker or vaper.
Slim: 9mg to 11mg
From 9mg up, ZYN moves to a slim format. Still on the drier side, but a bigger pouch with more nicotine. Red Fruits is 9mg and Icy Mint is 9.5mg. Watermelon Mint, Blueberry Mint, Red Berry Fizz and Guava Spice are 11mg.
This is the zone for regular users who have been at 6mg for a while, or for a heavy smoker switching over who wants a full replacement from day one. ZYN Watermelon Mint 11mg is our best-selling ZYN tin and the one we would pick for an ex-smoker who wants a mint with a bit of fruit.
Note that 11mg is still inside our strong band, which runs from 9mg to 12mg. It is not extra strong, whatever the tin says.
XX Strong: 12.5mg and 13.5mg
The top of the UK range. Icy Blackcurrant is 12.5mg and Blackcurrant Frost, Blueberry Frost and Menthol Ice are 13.5mg. These sit at the bottom of the X-Strong band. They are the strongest ZYN you can buy and a reasonable step for someone at 11mg who wants a little more without changing brand or pouch feel.
They are not in the same league as Killa (16.5mg), Pablo Gold (17mg) or anything beyond. If 13.5mg stops registering, ZYN has nothing further and you will need to look at the extra strong band.
Regular, Strong, X Strong, XX Strong: what the words mean
ZYN prints a strength word on the tin and it is relative to the format, not absolute.
- Mini Dry: Regular is 1.5mg or 3mg, Strong is 6mg.
- Slim: Strong is 9mg to 11mg, X Strong is 11mg, XX Strong is 12.5mg or 13.5mg.
So a "Strong" Mini (6mg) is weaker than a "Strong" Slim (9mg). Always read the mg figure, which is on the base or side of the tin, rather than the word on the lid.
What the dots mean
ZYN tins carry a row of dots. More filled dots means more nicotine. One filled dot is the lowest strength in that format, two is the middle, three or four is the top. The dots are a quick visual guide and they are consistent within a format, but they are not consistent across formats: a two-dot Mini and a two-dot Slim are different strengths.

UK ZYN vs US ZYN
People who watch American content get confused here. US ZYN is a different product line: it comes in 3mg and 6mg only, in a slim-ish format, and the flavour list (Wintergreen, Chill, Smooth, Cinnamon) does not match the UK one. US ZYN 6mg is roughly comparable to UK ZYN 6mg Mini Strong, but the pouch is a different size and shape.
The UK range is wider at both ends, with 1.5mg below and 9mg to 13.5mg above. If a video you have seen talks about "ZYN 6" as a strong pouch, remember that in the UK 6mg is the top of the low band.
Which ZYN strength should you pick?
- Never used nicotine, or only occasionally: 1.5mg or 3mg Mini Dry.
- Smoke or vape daily, light to moderate: 6mg Mini Strong.
- Smoke 15 or more a day, or vape heavily: 9mg or 11mg Slim.
- Already at 11mg and want a little more: 13.5mg XX Strong.
