Nicotine pouches by flavour
Ten flavour families, how the flavour gets into the pouch, why it fades after 20 minutes and how to pick one you will still like next month.

Quick answer: Nicotine pouch flavours fall into ten families: mint, spearmint, menthol and ice, fruit, berry, citrus, tropical, cola, coffee and liquorice. Mint and menthol outsell everything else combined. Flavour comes from food-grade flavourings and cooling agents, and it fades after 15 to 20 minutes while the nicotine keeps going. If you are unsure, buy one mint and one fruit at the same strength.
This is the flavour sub-hub under the nicotine pouches hub. Each family below has its own page with the tins that fit, grouped by brand and strength, so you can find a cola pouch at 6mg or a mint at 17mg without scrolling through 500 products.
How flavour gets into a pouch
A nicotine pouch is plant fibre (usually from eucalyptus or pine), nicotine, water, a pH adjuster, a little salt and sweetener, and flavouring. The flavouring is the same food-grade kind used in sweets and soft drinks, added as a liquid during mixing so it soaks through the fibre rather than sitting on the surface.
Mint, menthol and anything with "ice" or "frost" in the name also contains a cooling agent. Natural menthol is the traditional one. Most modern pouches use synthetic coolants, which give the cold feeling without the sharp menthol taste, which is why a VELO Peach Ice tastes of peach and feels cold rather than tasting of mint. The cooling effect is what people are usually responding to when they say a pouch is "fresh".
Sweetener does more work than you would think. Sweet pouches (Killa, Pablo, Iceberg) taste milder than their strength because sugar-type sweeteners soften the bite of nicotine on the gum. Dry, unsweetened pouches (White Fox, Siberia) feel harsher at the same mg. Our guide on what's inside a nicotine pouch goes through the full ingredient list.

Mint is the only family available at every strength from every brand. If you want a specific strength and a specific unusual flavour, say 6mg liquorice, you may be out of luck, and the family page will tell you so rather than pretend.
Mint, spearmint and menthol: the big three
Together these are roughly half of every pouch sold in the UK, and for good reason. Mint masks the nicotine bite, feels fresh, and does not clash with coffee, beer or food. Within the group, peppermint-style mint is the default, spearmint is the gentler sweeter option, and menthol and ice is for people who want the cold feeling turned up. The mint page is where most new users should start.
Fruit, berry, citrus and tropical: the sweet side
The fruit families have grown fastest since 2022, driven by VELO, Pablo and Killa. They suit people who found mint boring or who are coming from fruit-flavoured vapes. Berry is the most mainstream (blueberry and blackcurrant appear in nearly every range). Tropical skews strong because Pablo and Killa dominate it. Citrus is small but has some of the best low-strength tins. Ranked picks are in our best fruit pouches guide, linked below.
Cola, coffee and liquorice: the acquired tastes
These three families are small, loyal and worth a look if the sweet and minty options bore you. Cola is dominated by Pablo, Killa and 77. Coffee has one genuinely good mainstream tin (ZYN Coffee) and a handful of extra strong options. Liquorice and salmiak is almost entirely Scandinavian and almost entirely strong, which tells you who buys it.
Why pouch flavour fades so fast
Every pouch user notices the same thing: flavour is strong for ten minutes, fading by 20, and gone by 30, while the tingle carries on. That is not a defect. Flavouring is water-soluble and sits in the fibre, so saliva pulls it out quickly. Nicotine is released more slowly because it has to cross the gum lining.
Three things make it worse. Moist pouches lose flavour faster than dry ones. Sweet pouches seem to fade faster because the sweetness goes first and leaves a flat, salty base. And an old tin, or one stored in a warm car, will have lost flavour before you open it. We go through the fixes, including the fridge trick, in why do nicotine pouches lose flavour so fast.
| Pouch type | Flavour lasts | Nicotine lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Moist slim (VELO, Nordic Spirit, XQS) | 10 to 15 minutes | 30 to 45 minutes |
| Dry slim (ZYN, White Fox, Killa Dry) | 15 to 25 minutes | 45 to 60 minutes |
| Mini (ZYN Mini, VELO Mini, 77 Ghost) | 10 minutes | 20 to 30 minutes |
How to pick a flavour
- Match what you already like. If you drink black coffee and chew peppermint gum, go mint. If you vaped mango ice for two years, go tropical. Pouches are not the place to discover a new palate.
- Pick the strength first. Flavour is the easy part to change. Strength is the part that decides if you enjoy the pouch at all. Settle the band on our strength sub-hub, then pick a flavour within it.
- Buy single tins, not bundles. A ten-pack of a flavour you turn out to hate is £30 of regret. One tin is £4.29.
- Expect sweet to feel milder and dry mint to feel sharper. At the same mg, a Killa Cola feels gentler than a White Fox Mint. If a flavour family feels too harsh, it may be the base, not the number.
- Rotate. Most long-term users keep a mint and a fruit on the go and alternate, because the second tin always tastes stronger after the first.
| You want | Try this family | Specific tin |
|---|---|---|
| The safe default | Mint | ZYN Cool Mint 6mg |
| Something sweet and easy | Berry | VELO Blueberry Ice 8mg |
| The coldest thing possible | Menthol and ice | Pablo Ice Cold 30mg, or White Fox Mint 12mg for a sane version |
| A cigarette-like bitterness | Coffee | ZYN Coffee 6mg |
| Not sweet, not minty | Liquorice and salmiak | Helwit Salmiak 12mg |
| The flavour you vaped | Tropical or fruit | VELO Mango Ice 10mg |
Flavour and the law
Nicotine pouches are legal in the UK for adults aged 18 and over, and there are currently no flavour restrictions on them. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill gives the government powers to restrict flavours and packaging on pouches in future, as it does for vapes, and the sweet and candy-style names are the ones most likely to be affected. We track it in our guide to the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most popular nicotine pouch flavour?
Mint, by a long way, with menthol and ice close behind. Together the mint-based families outsell the fruit, berry, cola, coffee and liquorice families combined. Within fruit, blueberry and blackcurrant are the biggest sellers.
Do nicotine pouches have sugar in them?
Most do not contain sugar. They use sweeteners such as acesulfame K or xylitol to soften the taste. A handful of sweet-style brands list sugar alcohols. The pouch sits against your gum for up to an hour, so if you have a dental concern, a dry unsweetened mint is the gentler choice.
Are there unflavoured nicotine pouches?
A few, usually sold as "original" or "tobacco" flavour. They taste faintly earthy with a salty finish and suit snus switchers who do not want sweetness. We cover them in our unflavoured pouches guide.
Does flavour change how strong a pouch feels?
Yes, though not the nicotine itself. Sweet flavours mask the bite and make a pouch feel milder. Strong mint and menthol make it feel sharper. Two pouches at 10mg can feel a band apart because of the base they sit in.
Can I taste the flavour after I take the pouch out?
Mint and menthol linger for 10 to 20 minutes afterwards. Fruit and cola mostly vanish with the pouch. If you want a lasting fresh feeling, a menthol or ice pouch is the one that leaves it.
