Nicotine pouch flavours: the full guide

The ten flavour families on the site, a best tin in each with its strength, how flavour is added, why mint sells most and what the Tobacco and Vapes Bill proposes.

Quick answer: Nicotine pouch flavours fall into ten families: mint, spearmint, menthol and ice, fruit, berry, citrus, tropical, cola, coffee and liquorice. Mint in its various forms is well over half of what sells. If you are starting out, pick a mint or a fruit at a low strength and move from there.

Flavour and strength are separate choices. Every family below comes in Low, Medium, Strong and X-Strong somewhere in the range, so pick the taste first and the band second. The flavour browse pages sort every tin by family, and the strength guide covers the bands.

Mint, spearmint and menthol

These three are related but different enough to matter. Mint is the plain, cool, peppermint-style flavour that most brands use as their flagship: ZYN Cool Mint, Nordic Spirit Mint, White Fox Mint, Killa Cold Mint. It is clean and does not fight the nicotine tingle. Spearmint is sweeter and rounder, closer to chewing gum, and is the usual pick for people who find mint too toothpaste-like. VELO Bright Spearmint at 4mg and Nordic Spirit Spearmint at 6mg are the best known. Menthol and ice is the cold end: sharper, more numbing, often labelled Ice, Frost, Freeze or Arctic. ZYN Menthol Ice, VELO Freezing Peppermint, Pablo Ice Cold and XQS Arctic Freeze all live here, and the family skews strong because the cooling masks a bigger nicotine hit.

Mint dominates for a simple reason. It is the flavour most people already associate with a clean mouth, it covers the slightly bitter taste of nicotine, and it does not clash with coffee, food or a drink the way a fruit can. The best mint nicotine pouches guide ranks the lot.

Fruit, berry, citrus and tropical

Fruit is the second biggest family and the one with the most variety. Watermelon is the biggest single fruit flavour (ZYN Watermelon Mint, VELO Watermelon Ice, Killa Watermelon, Clew Watermelon), followed by mango, then pear and kiwi from Pablo's lines. Most fruit pouches add a little cooling to stop them tasting like sweets, which is why so many are called "Watermelon Ice" rather than plain watermelon.

Berry covers blueberry, raspberry, blackcurrant and mixed-berry blends. It tends to be softer and less sweet than the other fruits, and ZYN Blueberry Frost at 13.5mg, Nordic Spirit Forest Berries at 6mg and VELO Blueberry Ice at 8mg are a fair spread of strengths. Citrus (lemon, lime, orange) is the sharpest of the fruit families and the smallest: VELO Tangy Lime, ZYN Citrus, Pablo Exclusive Pink Lemonade and Killa Exclusive Lemonade cover most of it. Tropical means pineapple, passion fruit and mango blends, with Pablo Gold Edition Tropical Punch and VELO Tropical Mango the usual entry points. Our best fruit nicotine pouches guide goes fruit by fruit.

Cola, coffee and liquorice

These are the acquired tastes. Cola is bigger than you might expect, with Pablo, Killa, CUBA, Iceberg, 77, Helwit and Snooze all making one, plus cherry cola variants. It is sweet and fizzy-tasting for the first ten minutes, then settles to a mild vanilla. Coffee pouches (Helwit Mocca, Killa Cappuccino, Pablo Exclusive Mocca, ZYN Coffee Mini Strong) taste of milky coffee rather than espresso and suit people who want something warm and un-sweet. Liquorice and salmiak are the Scandinavian corner of the range. Helwit Salmiak is the salty, sharp version; Killa Exclusive Liquorice, Pablo Liquorice Exclusive and CUBA Liquorice Ninja are the sweeter kind. If you do not already like liquorice, skip the family. Dedicated guides cover coffee pouches and cola pouches.

How flavour gets into a pouch

A tobacco-free pouch is mostly plant fibre (usually from the cellulose family), water, nicotine, a salt that controls pH and the flavouring. The flavouring is food-grade, the same kind used in sweets and drinks, and it is mixed through the filling before the pouches are made. Sweeteners are often added too, which is why fruit pouches taste sweet with no sugar in them.

Flavour sits in the filling and comes out with the moisture, so it peaks early and fades well before the nicotine does. Most pouches taste strongest in the first 10 to 15 minutes and are mostly flavourless by 30. The nicotine keeps releasing after the taste has gone. Our guide to why nicotine pouches lose flavour so fast explains what you can and cannot do about it.

Brands by flavour strength

Some brands are better at flavour than others. ZYN and Nordic Spirit are restrained: the flavour is clean and not sweet, and it suits people who find the newer brands sugary. VELO sits in the middle. Pablo and Killa are bold and sweet, with long flavour lists, and their fruit and cola tins taste more like the real thing than anyone else's. FUMI and the 99p brands are sweeter still. The ZYN range is the safest place to start if you want flavour that stays out of the way; Pablo and Killa are where to go when you want it front and centre.

The proposed flavour rules

As of October 2026 the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which is working through Parliament, proposes giving ministers the power to restrict nicotine pouch flavours, packaging and point-of-sale display, in the same way it proposes for vapes. The Bill does not itself list which flavours would be restricted. Nothing has changed on the shelf, and no flavour has been banned. If restrictions come in, the likeliest targets are flavours and names that appeal to under-18s, and plain mint and tobacco-style flavours are the least likely to be affected. Our guide to the Tobacco and Vapes Bill tracks where it stands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most popular nicotine pouch flavour?

Mint, by a long way. Mint, spearmint and menthol together make up well over half of what sells, and almost every brand's best-selling tin is a mint of some kind. Watermelon is the biggest flavour outside the mint family.

What flavour should a beginner start with?

A mint or spearmint at a low strength. ZYN Cool Mint at 1.5mg or VELO Bright Spearmint at 4mg are the usual first tins. If you dislike mint, a soft berry or a watermelon at the same strength is the next best choice.

Do nicotine pouches contain sugar?

No. The sweetness comes from sweeteners mixed into the filling, not sugar. The flavourings are food-grade, the same type used in sweets and soft drinks.

Are there unflavoured nicotine pouches?

Very few in the UK. Most "original" or "tobacco" flavour tins are a mild, slightly sweet tobacco-style taste rather than nothing at all. See unflavoured and tobacco-flavour nicotine pouches.

Will flavoured nicotine pouches be banned in the UK?

Not at present. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill proposes powers to restrict flavours, but as of October 2026 no restriction has been made and nothing has been withdrawn.
