50mg nicotine pouches: what you need to know

What a 50mg pouch actually is, which brands make one, who uses them, what goes wrong when the wrong person tries one, and the proposed UK cap that could end them.

Quick answer: 50mg nicotine pouches are the strongest single tins sold in the UK, from Pablo Exclusive, Iceberg, Garant, DOPE, NOIS and Elux. They hold more than eight times the nicotine of a 6mg starter tin and are made for a small group of ex-snus users and long-term heavy users. As of October 2026 the Tobacco and Vapes Bill proposes a 20mg per pouch cap that would remove them from UK sale.

Two near neighbours are worth knowing. Kurwa Collection Max sits at 43mg across six flavours, and CUBA Cherry goes above 50mg to 66mg but is only sold as a three-pack. Everything from 12mg up is on the extra strong page, and the full ranking is in strongest nicotine pouches in the UK.

Why 50mg tins exist

Tobacco-free pouches grew out of Swedish snus, and strong snus has been normal in Sweden for a long time. When Pablo launched the Exclusive line it was aimed at snus users who found the first wave of tobacco-free pouches (ZYN, VELO, Nordic Spirit at 4mg to 11mg) too soft to replace what they were used to. The 50mg figure became a marker, and other brands followed.

There is also a plainer reason. "Strongest" sells. A 50mg tin gets talked about, searched for and bought out of curiosity. A fair share of first-time 50mg buyers use three pouches, feel awful, and put the tin in a drawer.

Who actually uses them

The honest list is short. Former Swedish snus users who were on strong portion snus for years. Ex-heavy smokers who have worked up through 16mg, 20mg and 30mg over months and still find the hit fades. And a small group who use one pouch a day and want it to carry them through a long shift.

That is it. A 50mg tin is not a sensible choice for anyone switching from cigarettes or vaping, however heavy the habit. The Pablo range has a ladder for people who want to get there slowly: Silver at 10mg, Gold at 17mg, Red and Ice Cold at 30mg, then Exclusive at 50mg. Most people who start on Silver never reach Exclusive, and that is the point.

What goes wrong with a 50mg pouch

Nicotine in a dose that size, absorbed over half an hour, produces a predictable set of effects in anyone not used to it.

  • Light-headedness and a racing pulse within ten minutes
  • Sweating and a hot face
  • Nausea, sometimes to the point of being sick
  • A burning or raw patch on the gum where the pouch sat, worse with the dry Pablo format
  • Hiccups, which sound trivial until they last an hour

If any of this happens, take the pouch out, rinse your mouth, sit down and drink some water. The effects pass within an hour. If you have a heart condition, are pregnant, or feel chest pain, treat it as a medical matter and call 111 or your GP. This guide is not medical advice. Nicotine pouch side effects covers the full list, and swallowed a nicotine pouch? explains what to do if one goes down, which matters more at 50mg than at 6mg.

Nicotine is addictive. A daily 50mg habit is a heavy one and takes months to step down from. If you do not already need 30mg, you do not need 50mg.

Reading a 50mg label

Not every big number on a tin means 50mg per pouch. Iceberg prints nicotine per gram, and its strongest lines carry figures like 150mg/g on the lid. A pouch weighs a fraction of a gram, so that works out at 50mg per pouch for the strong line and 20mg for the standard line. Pablo and Garant print per pouch, so 50 means 50. If a tin shows a huge number, check whether it says mg or mg/g before assuming it is the strongest thing on the shelf. Mg per pouch vs mg per gram explains the conversion.

The proposed UK cap

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill, as of October 2026, proposes a maximum of 20mg of nicotine per pouch for products sold in the UK. If that becomes law as written, every tin in the table above would have to be reformulated to 20mg or withdrawn from UK sale, along with the 30mg and 43mg lines. The tins at 20mg and below would be unaffected.

It is a proposal. The detail, the timing and any transition period are not settled, and nothing has changed on the shelf. Brands with a strong UK presence are likely to keep selling their 16mg to 20mg lines and drop the rest if the cap comes in. If you rely on a 50mg tin, it is worth knowing that it may not be available in a year or two, and a slow step down to 20mg now is easier than a forced one later. Our guide to the Tobacco and Vapes Bill follows the Bill's progress.

Frequently asked questions

Are 50mg nicotine pouches legal in the UK?

Yes, as of October 2026, for adults aged 18 and over. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill proposes a 20mg per pouch cap, but it is not yet law.

Is 50mg the strongest nicotine pouch?

It is the strongest single tin. CUBA Cherry at 66mg is stronger but is only sold as a three-pack. Caffeine pouches carry bigger numbers but those are milligrams of caffeine, not nicotine.

How many cigarettes is a 50mg pouch?

There is no exact figure, and the comparison is not useful at this level. A cigarette delivers roughly 1mg to 2mg of absorbed nicotine. A 50mg pouch delivers a great deal more over half an hour, which is why it makes unaccustomed users ill.

Which 50mg pouch is the mildest to use?

None of them is mild, but the dry Pablo Exclusive format starts slower than a moist pouch, so the first few minutes are less sharp. NOIS at 25p is the cheapest way to find out that 50mg is too much for you.

Will 50mg pouches be banned?

If the Tobacco and Vapes Bill passes with its proposed 20mg cap, they would no longer be legal to sell in the UK. As of October 2026 that is a proposal, not a decision.
